What is it........

Retro Newbie
I picked up a nice little retro bike from the tip the other day but I don't know what it is. It is made from Reynolds 653. It had an unusual join between seat post and rear triangle. It has space for two water bottles on the down tube. It has McILWANE written on the frame (this means nothing to me). Can you help?

Don't know but a great score. Does it have 653 sticker? Is it brazed?

Love the look of it and forks.

What kit is on it? Might indicate vintage easier but flex stem so 1991-2?

Re:

Might sound odd but are any of those tubes square at the end? Looks a bit like a muddy fox sorcerer mega.

That joint is a shim used to space out the seatpost.

Re: what it it........

Wow - I was not really expecting any replies let alone questions. Yes it does have 653 stickers. No square tubes - all round. It has some nice old school kit on it- campag rims on DX hubs, XT mech, rhichey levers, tioga bars, pace chain rings, LX crank arms, nice XT thumb shifters and a classic flexi stem. Not bad for £5 from the tip - having trouble uploading photos- hopefully to follow. Thanks for your help.

Certainly looks like a Bromwich and as per the above post, the McILWANE would seem to confirm this. Superb find!!
