Hi..
Hope some one can help me locate this bike..

Back in 1993 i co owned a bike shop called 'R & W cycles' in birkdale merseyside, of the many bikes we built, this yeti fro was one of them..
Bought as a frame set, then built up with the customers parts..

I cant remember the frame number, but it was for a guy called 'matt' ( a serious yeti fan ) who went on to buy more yeti's !
Im not sure if he still ownes it, but if it is still out there, i would like to know..
Only have one picture of it..

Matt Stott by any chance Red? I knew him briefly..he was a YETI nut and sold me some original decals a long while ago.

Not seen him for years though! He offed all his YETI's too!!!

Hi Joe,

Yes......, matt stott....

WOW, never thought he would part with his collection..
One of the last times i saw him was when he and another good rider and my self went for a ride, around rivington & belmont..
i will never forget that ride., i forgot my seat and seat post... . but still did the ride....,wont do that in a hurry ever again...

So with you saying he offered his bikes for sale, he has probably moved on to other things..

On with the search....

I live in Birkdale, can't remember R & W cycles, unless it was the shop on New cut lane that was there for a couple of years? Owner had a sweet Yeti Ultimate?

Hello.

You are right, we where not there for long, i had an accident that kind of put an end to it..

I still have the yeti ultimate :D , and have only recently got back in to riding..., and was going to use the ulltimate, but because its in such good shape, i need to preserve it, so i bought a fro a couple of months ago..

My ultimate these days, not changed much :

I heard you broke your back coming round a corner and seeing an unexpected gate, but thay may have just been rumour...

Hi again,

I nearly sold it a few times, So glad i did'nt.
The rumour was true , i was with my mates at the time ( one being phil who owned the shop with me - he now lives in australia )..., out riding in grizedale forest..
I was going for it ' over 45mph ' when i took a corner , in front of me was one of those forestry gates, and it was closed ( nuts for a certified cycle route ).., i had no time to stop or even drop the bike..
I managed to let go of the bars, hitting the back of my head on the gate as i went under it ! this knocked me out..
On coming around, i then realized i had broke my back...
Going under the gate put the seat post through my flite saddle, into my chest.
( at first i couldnt figure out where these two holes in my chest had come from )
It was only when i looked at my seats ti rails, they where bent ! that, that was what had caused the holes.
I had been compressed between the gate & my bike...., the gate was snapped in several places..
Mad thing is, thinking i had broke my back, i couldnt feel my legs, very frightening experience, not just for me, but for my friends aswell, i think they where more in shock than me.
I had very strange shooting pains, then im stood up, with no pain at all !!!
Then i did a stupid thing, i got back on my bike and done another 20mile off road.
I collapsed later that night........, and have suffered ever since...
Being told i cant ride a bike ever again was hard, its all i knew..
But any way......, started again last june :D
Saying that, im not supposed to, i just cant do what i used to, i ride at the back now, when im riding with friends...

Excuse the 70's porn star hair style, but here i am , standing up in no pain !!

My wife still rides her marin, but she wants a yeti fro now aswell, hence trying to locate the grey one..

What a story! Amazing to get the full details of this after all these years. And yes you were pretty mad to carry on and do the extra 20 miles. By the way I heard the story originally from Dave Rimmer who I used to ride with as well as Mike Harthill. Dave used to be good friends with Matt Stott (stottie) mentioned above.

WOW...,now there is a name from my past, i sold my team yo eddy too dave rimmer, to get funds to buy a 1950s vw oval beetle :D

Not seen him for years either.....

I remember the yo-eddy, Dave had a matching shock-a-billy for a time which cracked at the swingarm. Dave bent the forks on the yo on a descent from Helvellyn where he just couldn't slow down and rode straight into a drystone wall. I remember wincing at the cost of a replacement set of forks.
Not seen Dave for ages, last time was probably my wedding, but regularly go riding with Mike still.
