Headset to replace impact

Hi
I'm looking to replace my Impact headset on my 91 Explosif,whats the best? both in ease of replacement and quality, I know a lot of people are going to say Chris King gripnut but is there an alternative available in the UK?

Hi,

I would look for a Tange! They made them in aluminium and chromoly like the Impact.

Some have sealed bearings if you like low maintenance.

Only Mavic 316 at that time, possibly the XTR M901.
I personally think the Mavic is the better.

FluffyChicken, I'snt the stack height too big on the Mavic 316?
I was going to buy one off a member on here but thought the Impact was a lot smaller than the Mavic, thats why I thought of the gripnut.

The impact isn't very low iirc, you would need to check what you have to play with. 316 is 38mm to 44mm (check the docs for exact). It has a 'range' it can be used with.

I believe the 316 was introduced for 1992 models (same year as the xtr)

I think the 1" Impact has 39mm stack (something on bikepro writup). I guess the 1 1/8 would be the same are neither.
