Right,I've stripped my bike down and building it back up now with new cables and a few other bits,its got an American classic equipment headset on (1 1/8 thread less) and can I hell work out how the person before me managed to tighten it(although when I stripped it I noticed the 3x small screws were already loose!). The problem I've got is,on the upper parts of the headset(3x parts,upper part and lower part with a ring in the middle with a split in it that tightens on the steerer tube of forks) this thing tightens on the steerer tube too tight before the headset is actually 'tight',and secondly the screws are not accessible with the stem in place! What am I doing wrong,and how can I tighten it as I'm about to rip it off and chuck it over the back fence!
