Can anyone ID this bike?

Serial Number: JSF01010881
Forks have "98" stamped in them, with the letters FdC

Two bike shops have failed, hopefully the guru's here can help, thanks

Looks like a generic oversize alu frame to me, like the ones the factories in the far-east churned out by the gazillion in the 90's (and still do).
May have been from a reputable company, but the names "British Eagle", "Claud Butler", or "Townsend" seem to come to mind :?
