So, the RTS has been stored in my dad's loft for nearly 3 years after moving house. It was pulled out a week before the ride. New pads up front, a bit of air in each end and some new tubes and off we went!

A couple of weeks ago now - 26th June, but only just got around to the photos:

8AM @ Avebury after a 30 minute commute to the start. The local information board stated that the 5,500 year old stone circle was based on the legendary SPIN wheels. "the almost circular, slightly ovalised structure has three distinct spokes leading to the outer ring. Centralised in the miss-shaped circle is a highly polished lump of non-metalic metal"

Loaded with enough for the first 45ish miles to Goring.

Mid morning @ Waylands Smithy. Local legend has it that this 6,000 year old neolithic chamber was discovered with a poster of a GT RTS Team on the wall, with "one day, I'll be cool enough for this bike" scrawled underneath in the stone. Further excavations showed that the owner of this poster designed the Raleigh Activator. Carbon dating shows that the Activator outdated the RTS poster by at least 780 years.

Not much of great interest from here to the Chiltern Hills, just weaving around at the base of the chilterns on rough trails or roads.

Coombe Hill, after a punishing climb.

Home straight across Wendover woods & Tring Park.

Ivinghoe Beacon @ 8pm after 95 miles. 6,000 ft climbing. 11 ish hours riding.

If you have a retro bike lurking around for a while and hasn't been used for a while, take it out, clean it down and ride it.

If you're going to do the ridgeway, you can't go wrong with this map "XT40 - The Ridgeway" the Harvey. Shows alternative routes for cyclists and has plenty of details.

*(not all of the ride was the ridgeway as we didn't want to upset too many walkers... As much as possible though! )
