Had a couple today on the muddy downhill section above spoonley on the frankenbike. Any tips for getting out of a soft muddy rut without stepping off? Wasn't pretty. Washed out the front. Blossom hill is helping my hips/sides recover.
Drop bars and crap brakes.
Ended up getting down it riding side saddle sort of. Not pretty but worked.

Not getting into the rut in first place !

Seriously though, downhill in soft mud in a rut, there is no solution other than ninja reflexes and the gyroscopic balance of a segway. Nowt wrong with foot down or a strategic dismount in such situations.

Weight to the front, hop the front up and out of the rut,be ready to countersteer if the rear doesn't follow straight away.

Try to avoid the bastard in the first place.

My thanks for your tips. Next time I'll know they're there so hopefully will be ready!

Feels very odd trying to brake with the weight forward and going downhill.

Not sure if I won't revert back to flat bars

I'm sure Edwards has written a knowing piece about the black art of descending. Fo sho I've seen him elect to dismount on many an occasion....
