Ok, so excited about owning an sts and building her up with modern kit I already have and I have hit a snag with the front mech - the one I have doesn't fit. It is obviously due to it being a standard/traditional design and I need one with the lower band, but I've not got any to try and whilst I'm sure one will fit, the standard style one is so far off the mark I've got doubts, so could someone confirm what I probably already suspect and that a low band front mech will fit.

Oh, if you have a spare m970 one, I'd take it off your hands.

Why dont you go with one that mounts off the BB?

While you're at it do the v brake noodle modification. This really smooths out the cable routing to the front mech. Take a small drill bit and enlarge the cable hole in the bb shell just big enough for a brake noodle, then bend it to give a smooth line to the mech.
