I have got a 92 Trek that I would like to turn into a single speed mountain bike. Any ideas or suggestions. I do not know where to start as I only have the frame.
- looks like the guy got away without a chain tensioner - which is sometimes required if single-speeding a bike with vertical drop outs. A lot of bike designed for singlespeeding have horizontal dropouts rather than the vertical ones commonly found on MTB's - this allows you to tension the chain by moving the back wheel forwards or backwards.
The important things about a single speeder is a single speed rear wheel. The rest can be standard or you can do things like get a specific single speed crankset.
