Hi,
I am currently re-building a Saracen Traverse frame and forks with a Deore DX 91-93 groupset, the problem I have is that the bottom bracket (open bearing type) when fitted the spindle/axel slops back and forth (side to side). The bottom bracket that I have is a 68 x 122.5mm, the bottom bracket shell in the Saracen frame measures 73mm (the donor frame for the groupset shell only measured68mm), would fitting a 127.5mm spindle/axel cure the problem?

If it will, does anybody out there have one?

the bearing surfaces on the axle/ spindle need to match the width of the BB so a spindle from a 73mm cup & ball BB will be further apart than the 68mm version.

a 73mm 122.5mm cartridge style BB may do the trick. They do wear and are not serviceable but they are cheap

I have a load of axles spare if you get stuck.

Ahh, Got it. I don't need a longer axle, i just checked and the 122.5mm axle gives good crank arm clearance to the frame. I need a axle with a longer distance between the bearing surfaces, any one got a 73mm x 122.5mm axle?
Thanks for your reply you made the penny drop.
