I`d say the pins are tool steel and would be a total bugger to drill out.

I don't have the link but somebody posted a blog entry where the small pilot holes are carefully drilled through the "blind ends" of suntour derailleurs. A small punch can then be used to drift out the pins. The pins can be re used if not too worn.
Inspired by this piece, I tried it on a shimano exage derailleur and it works a treat. Just search for "suntour derailleur refurbishment" or "suntour thumb shifter refurbishment" and you should find the article.
