Before I start bashing away with the bearing extractors can anybody tell me if early xc pro front hubs use a standard 6001 bearing with just one seal or are they something a little more oddball? I thought I should check first that they are easily replaceable in case they drop to bits on the way out.

Just as you say. I changed mine a year ago. So just rip a seal out.
I think I left both seals in as I'm never going to inject them anyway.

Hardest part is setting them up properly, they need, it mine did, more off the frame slack in the setup than a normal cup/cone does.
