yes - I have been running a 9spd Whipperman chain in a 7/8spd system for many moons. It dont care. Just dont try the 8spd chain on a 9spd cassette...

Thanks Mr cheese...Is that because the 9 speed chain is thinner and the 8 fatter so wouldn't work on a 9 speed cassette?
