I think I know the answer to this already but will it be ok to run a 9 speed XTR rear mech with an 8 speed XTR set up (shifters, crankset, cassette)? Would I get problems with the chain if its an 8 speed chain or would a 9 speed chain run fine?

Thanks

Doug

Thanks Mr cheese...Is that because the 9 speed chain is thinner and the 8 fatter so wouldn't work on a 9 speed cassette?

Sorry doug, I missed your reply.......yeah, the fatter 7 speed chain struggles with the slimmer nature of the 9 speed block.......
