This site uses 1997 but both the OWMTB organisers and the organisers of the retro category at the Big Dog in Brighton go earlier.

Don't let the fact that this website is a little more relaxed about 'the rules' fool you into thinking that anything made after 31.12.1995 is actually classed as 'retro' by the movers and shakers.

If your bike is a 1996 model or later, those who hold the cards don't class it as retro, and probably never will.
