Hi all,

I got some of those SunTour Cantilever brakes on one of my bikes, the ones where the rear is the self energizing type and the front is just regular.

I'm running them with the stock SunTour brake pads and the performance is Outstandingly Bad ( Egregious! ) I've got some Shimano Lx M550 canti's on another bike and there 10x better.

Any one recommend any new brake blocks that will give me some much needed improvement.

Many Thx

I would check the straddle cable length first. If the cable angle is less than 90 degrees you get so little mechanical advantage that an anvil on a rope is a better brake.

As for pads, Aztec or Kool Stop work well for me.

I found these to be brilliant... must be down to setup and pads

I ran Aztec pads, with the green ones for ceramic rims on the rear

Just for the record, the self energising brakes are known for poor performance in the wet where there is not enough friction against the rim to activate the cam action in the cantilever.....my experience with them is good.....standard pads, set up properly on a 231 rim....
