Mantis Pro Floater is a good option. Nice bike if you can find one without a cracked swingarm. They ride much like most modern single pivot frames.

Not sure if pre-97, but I had a Kona Sex One for a while - it was very comfortable!

I'd like to keep it pre-97 and I have thought about a proflex but once had a 1991 951 I think and that was more "damping" than suspension....Not seen a Trek 9000 or a Ventena...
