Kona Franken-headset query

Hi all,

I've got all the bits for a Kona Impact headset bar the cups, and before I shell out for a new complete headset I wondered what was stopping me using the top cup and bottom cup/crown race/bearings from another headset - or is this crazy talk? I like the idea of retaining the Kona's spannerless allen bolt tightening jobbie, but not sure whether any old top cup would be compatible with the Impact's design?

Anyone have any experience of this, and whether the stack height is unduly affected?

Impact cups are a bit different from most headsets, I think they use larger bearings.

I think they have a lower stack height, too.

Cheers for the info. I think the Kona headsets have a stack height of 33 mm, and I know that if a replacement is needed then a Ritchey Logic is also 33 mm. They aren't quite as pretty though...

Does anyone know if there are others on the market that also have the same stack height?
