Okay I've spent a few bob on bikes. I could probably hold my hand up and say I'm a borderline bike snob. £4k on a second hand bike - I wouldn't. If I'd won/inherited a telephone number amount of cash then I still probably wouldn't. Certainly not a mountain bike. An Eddy Merckx tour winning bike, a Pantani bike, Coppi, Millar's polka dot winning bike, or an Anquetil maybe. But not to be used as a bike. Almost as a bicycle antique in a sporting memorabilia stylee

I guess we all have priorities.

If I had to choose a £4000 vintage bike rather than doing anything else with that money I think it would be a handmade British racer of some kind. In terms of mountain bikes it would probably have to be an early Breezer or something like that.
