Has anyone used a steerer tube extension unit?

Not ideal I know, but I need an extra 20-30mm length on my steerer tube to accomodate a cable hanger, they work like a quill stem so strength and integrity should be ok.

I don't want to swap the forks as they're mint condition Ritchey Logics in 1" ahead - and they cost a bloody fortune

That's the very one I was looking at - reviews seem thin on the ground. I take it you've used one Steve?

Several, the purple Saracen in the link below has one; the fork has a short threaded steerer with a BBB extender and an Aheadset/stem...

Used a Halfords one on my Zaskar, 16 stone plus on and off road with no ill effects.
Does need doing up every so often.

Used them on many bikes to fit ahead stems to threaded forks
You can shim them up too

Right - thanks for your help - the ringing endorsements have helped me decide it's the route I'll take...

Like the purple beast - I have an exact same pair of 'Wildgrippers'.

Can you pick your stem cap using the BBB extender?
