Hi, need some assistance.
I have some nice Specialites TA chain rings; Compact 44-94, 32-94 (and an Action-Tec Ti small ring).
Question is, what sort of Crank Arms can I add to these rings?
I was looking at Race Face Turbine's (Square taper) - do these come in different sizes?

And what's the score with matching crank arms to rings? What do the numbers mean and what should I look out for?

I haven't any crank arms as yet, so any suggestions?

These will most likely go onto a future project (a 1998 M-Trax Optima Lite I'm looking to buy, so the cranks/rings etc need to all be 90ies upto say 1998/99)

Thanks! :)

Re: Questions regarding Chain Rings size to what Crank Arms

Think you'll find Raceface cranks are 104 BCD...

...you're going to be a bit limited with 94 BCD I think?

Re: Questions regarding Chain Rings size to what Crank Arms

I've just discovered that my Specialized Strong Arm chain set (and therefore some Sugino chain sets) is/are 94BCD :D

Re: Questions regarding Chain Rings size to what Crank Arms

Hi what do the numbers mean and what cranks could I use with these?
Cheers

Re: Questions regarding Chain Rings size to what Crank Arms

Pre-1993 cranks are typically 110/74 (110mm PCD outer & middle, 74mm centre)
Smallest ring size is 34 and 24T respectively (there are a few trick 33T rings around, and I think somebody once made a 32T)
Later 'compact' ones are 94/58. Smallest ring size is 32 and 20T respectively.
4-arm are 104.

Are these raceface turbines on this sale thread compatible?
They're advertised as 94 / 58

Lucky find!

Yes, they would be ideal for what you want; the 94 is the BCD of the outer and middle chainring, 58 is the BCD of the inner/granny ring.

BCD = Bolt Circle Diameter in mm

Stevo mate you've cleared that up on one.
Cheers
Is that raceface a good price?

Re: Questions regarding Chain Rings size to what Crank Arms

They do tend to fetch premium prices, but if that's what you want and you don't mind paying it then yes, it's a good price...

Re: Questions regarding Chain Rings size to what Crank Arms

Turbine come in both the standard MTB 5 arm sizes
Have a quick pop into the archive and dig the catalogues out and GPO learn a little bit about them before you plunge on and buy.
They come in square and later in ISIS bottom bracket attachments.

You'll either need the version with the granny spacers built in or make sure it comes with them.
