Help with Raleigh Yukon tyre size?

Hey, so I'll admit I'm a complete noob when it comes to bikes. I'm trying to get this old Raleigh back on the road but need some help with what tyre size I would need. The frame size is 19". I would look on the wall of the tyre to figure it out but they are completely wrecked, all I remember is that they were Alesa. My brother tells me he tried some 26's but they didn't fit. Can anybody help? Thank you.

They LOOK like 26"ers. They OUGHT to be 26"ers. Unless someone has at some time changed to the old style 26x1 3/8 or similar, they almost certainly WILL be 26"ers!

Perhaps the ones your brother tried were the largely obsolete variety of 26"?

Yes tyre sizes can be confusing. The definitive way of measuring is ETRO (or ERTO, I forget!) sizes. Have a google or whatever!

Here you are - have a read!

but dont forget there are 26 and 26 inch tyres, you want a mountain bike 26x1.95 (that was the original size) as opposed to a 26x1 3/8th which is fitted to ladies pashley shoppers and suchlike.
