What rims are they, then appropriate style era hubs can be offered in the good old Wanted section ;-)
though I think mine will be 32 Hole

Best of luck, they seem to be very rare. Basically, I just forked out for pretty much the only period set I could find. There are modern XT ones on ebay, a pair can be had for around £60.

I don't understand why they're so rare, anyone any sensible ideas?

Perhaps 36 spoke wheels are so much better, people are hanging on to them and there are none for sale?

Purely because 32hole wheel was ahem lighter* and became the standard so people/marketing sold 32 hole in the early 90's
36 was confined to the lower end where as wheel needed to last longer I guess.

*nothing to do with being 4/36ths of the spoke/nipple cost to build for the OEMs of course.

Things I've learnt - its relatively easy to get 36 hole nos rims - damn sight harder getting any (used or nos) hubs to fit them too....
