Alternative 1986 mechs and chainsets

Afternoon!

Am looking for alternative parts to Shimano for a 1986 rebuild.

Any pics gratefully received - ideally chainsest, mechs, shifters and brake levers.

You're pretty much limited to the old Suntour XC stuff, unless you can rustle up some arcane French parts.

A TA triple chainset shouldn't be too hard to find.

I like Sugino AT or SR Sakae CR or TA for cranks. (I've even got a Browning Beast setup going spare - that might be a bit later than '86 though.)

For levers, what about those big ergonomic ones with the spherical sculpted look: can't remember the name - maybe Dia Compe XL or something.

Mafac cantis or Suntour Roller cams if you have the studs. I tried Dia COmpe 981s with the cool exposed springs. Very light, yet ineffective.

Suntour mechs are awesome. Try getting one of the triple jockey wheel ones.

Or Huret?

You don't want any of those horrible Sakae CR cranksets, if you find one, just pass it on to me and I'll dispose of it for you.

I've been after one for years, but they only seem to come up in the States.

Specialized did some nice chainsets which are similar to the above but easier to find

But those "keyhole" crank caps make any chainset look old school. Love these huge drilled rings:
