Good idea. I'll make this thread a sticky if people want to introduce themselves.

Welcome to the site slim, lets see some pics of the pine mountain and the proflex. The Activator was as good a place to start as any.

My turn now I guess.

I've been riding since '90, when retro was new. Not got much better since though sadly. Started with a Raleigh Mirage, moved up to a GT Karakoram after stuffing the Raleigh into a tree. The year after I purchased a Cannondale. It's been downhill since.

My History

Started proper biking in ’91 with a Yellow Saracen Sahara (I didn’t know any better back then). It got a few upgrades (thumbies, Onza bar ends, White Porcs) before I upgraded to a 92 Kona Kilauea. That lasted for a year before going into the back of a car and getting a replacement 93 Explosif frame. In ’95 I got some Judy XC forks and not long after that frame failed to be replaced by a ’96 Explosif. Its still around and used but isn’t really retro.

I thought I was bike obsessed until I met Scant back in '94 whilst at Uni.

Up to 1998 weirdly I’d been able to cope with just one bike but on a holiday to Canada I picked up a Rocky Mountain Blizzard which I loved. Unfortunately some c*nt nicked it off me back in 2001. Since then I’ve had a fair selection of bikes: Stumpy FSR, Zaskar, Alpinestars Cromega, Airborne Lancaster, Kona Munimula and a Tomac Black Talon. Very recently got back into the Rocky Mountain Owners Club with a Vertex which I love. :D

I like a bit of retro kit but I’m not into the not riding them thing. It seems a shame that such nice (& capable) bikes get kept indoors and not ridden.

Hi,

my first mountain bike was a specialized hardrock ( pink ) . It was in 1990/91 I think . I upgraded the forks with some Marzochi . They were the first generation of sus forks . ( I still have them in bits )

Then i got a stumpjumper team equipped with suntour XCpro in 1991 . I kept the same forks and i added some SPD747 pedals ( which i still use today ) .

In 1994 I bought a GT RTS 2 . I upgraded the chainset with a Blue TNT .

Then I stop riding till I got a GT i drive . I off course kept the chainset and the wheels ( Mavic with ringle hubs ) .

I recently sold the i drive for an old school GT ZASKAR LE . I repainted it and added a lot of ringle stuff ( stem , seat post and waterbottle ) . The TNT is still as good as new !

I ve just found some old school Grip shift and I am looking for a Mag 21 to finish it . I ride it every week .

and a 91 iboc mongoose all original parts ever reflectors in the spokes
bought this week off ebay.

Got my first MTB in '89 - Graecross 15 speed, thought it was the best ever.
Then got a Holstar with 200GS, again thought nothing was better (little did I know)

Since then bikes have kept me poor in one way but rich in another!

First real MTB was a 1992 Boulder Intrepid with full SunTour XC-Pro and Marzocchi XC 400 forks (later XC 600 forks and Campy Record OR brakes).

1994 Barracuda A2X - Tange Ultimate, xtr and Manitou 3s.

Jamis Dakar Pro - flouro yellow maguras and Bullseye Hubs.

1994 GT Zaskar LE - got second hand, but ended up being too small.

Current bikes are 1990 Litespeed built as a single speed (purple toplines, red Ringle stem and seatpost)

GT Xizang - White Bothers SC90s, Magura rims brakes with TWP levers and mostly original xtr.

1995 Boulder Starship Ti, using Bullseye cranks that are 10 years old and are on their 3rd or 4th bike.

I'm also rebuilding a Pro-Flex 555.

would love to see a pic of that boulder Ti!

first mountain bike in 1985, although I'd been riding various other bikes on the mountain behind my folks house for some years before that.
1st bike was a raleigh ozark 531 & far too big
2nd bike was specialized team stumpjumper, still too big but so light in comparison to the raleigh
3rd bike a specialized stumpjumper comp, which I promptly broke in a massive crash
4th replacement frame was a specialized s-works steel (the 1st 1) which lasted 3 years & the start of "retro components", vast majority of which broke! nuke proof & white industry hubs, cook bros cranks, etc
5th a 94 fat chance titanium. tioga disk drive, mag21s, white industries, cook bros stem, judy FSX carbon forks, ringle, american classic, M900 xtr etc
that FAT did massive miles & had massive abuse & 1 of the low points of my entire life, after unofficially winning the welsh champs in 98 found a crack in the downtube :(
got a warranty replacement off wendyl 8months later=
6th, fat chance titanium, king titanium headset, white bros, now fox forks, custom syncros ti post with a RF XY clamp, M950XTR, king hubs, had moots, seven & ibis ti stems on it, onza ti barends, titus custom ti bars, full SRP ti bolt kit. later heard off wendyl that its only 1 of 2 polished FAT chance titaniums ever made :D

since then I've gone kinda mad, stockin up on the frames & parts I always wanted as a kid...

Boulder Ti mentioned below.. I'd love to see a pic of that :D

Sorry Slim ,

I part exchanged it for the Idrive . Contact kris le rouge in this forum , he will find you one if you want one . He is a GT specialist .

Introducing me...

Hi my names Jez.

I live in Warwick in the midlands of the UK. I try to ride as much as I can but due to work etc I only get out locally really. Tend to buy and sell more bits so therefore have turned into a collector now I guess. Have 7 fully built bikes and loads of 90's componentry.

I started riding in 1990 amd raced for a bit around that time too. Used to go to lots of events around the area (malverns, forest of dean, bobs bash etc)

First bike:

British Eagle in bright fluro yellow 23" frame (!) with Exage Trail 18 speed. Mmmm.

2nd (first proper bike):

Kona Lavadome 1991 in purple 19". Was upgraded over the years to include purple anodised stuff and a pair of RS Quadra suspension forks etc. Used to race this bike and still have it. Still in real ncie condition. Swapped my sisters Alpinestars full DX groupset on to it in 1995. Still have bike and will feature here soon.

3rd bike

Pace F4 - in great condition and still have it. Built up with spinergys and 9 speed XTR groupset. Used this for quite a while but have favoured other steeds recently. Still a superb quick machine tho.

Others:

Klein Attitude 1992
Fat Chance yo Eddy 1993
Fat Chance Titanium 1994
Mountain Goat Whiskey Town Racer 1993
Kona Hei Hei 1992

All taking up room in garage!
