I hope I am in the right chat. I am a fan of rigid fork retro mountain bikes. The less suspension the better! I look for frame materials and simplicity over name or new price.

My favourite bikes are Cannondales and Orange bikes from the mid 1990's. But I look for Tru Temper bikes and avoid Carbon or damaged aluminium.

Introduce y'rself here? Hi, I'm RustyZipper and I like old bikes. I currently ride "new" bikes but I am working on old bikes. I ride a trek 520 from '08 and Verve+2. But I am working on an old hybrid for the boss. You know, She who must be obeyed. It is an older bike from the '80s. Kind of a Schwinn cross or hybrid. It will be a bit of a Rat Rod. Yellow fork green frame, adding a blue Hollywood chain guard and other bits. Have a 24" ladies bike from the fifties shipped in after the purchase from Kalifornia to the state of Misery. It is called a Hornet Spitfire by Schwinn. I also have a new old looking front rocket light for the fender. Looking to shine up frame, etc. and polish the paint then wax. I'm now retired from 24 years as a prison officer. Hope to live long enough to enjoy putting up with liberal admin types for the retirement. Be Well, RustyZipper.

I have been riding mountain bikes for years, but have spent the last few years on road. I started upgrading my bikes around 1997. Halfords at that point always had bargain buckets of stuff they hadn't sold. They had Panaracer Magic in a cream colour that blew my mind, also the introduction of the M600 shimano V-brake was a revalation to me as a 14 year old. So I saved up my pocket money and started getting trick bits from there. That developed into more mountain biking and I got my first GT (Talera) in about 98 from Cranx Cycles in benfleet, it was the previous years model in "Team Scream" yellow and blue colours, I loved that bike until the head tube cracked from my exploits doing back hops and front hops thinking I was Hans Rey. I made some good friends through that trials/street sub-culture, swaps and upgrades were often discussed under street lights and down the bottom of the biggest flight of steps in the town centre. Various frames followed another talera, an aluminium "Popcorn blizzard" out the back of MBUK's sales pages, a DMR trailstar (which I still own and is the one I couldnt part with), A DMR sidekick, GT XCR 4000, orange 222, gt backwoods.

I have known of retrobike through friends and online searches but I generally hung around pinkbike for any builds. I have always built my own bikes, its a wonder how I haven't found you all sooner. This place feels like home lol.

Always liked retro bikes, I have recently bought 2 retro Saracen Mountain bikes to strip down, clean, customise, use one, and restore the other. Selling my 2010 Boardman Comp mountain bike to fund more retro bikes to work on .

Hello, and nice to be here. Heve been mountain biking on and off since 1991. Currently own a Giant Trance 2, which is the "active bike", Cannondale F2000 from 1998 and now have a new project. A Cannondale M600 (photo attached) which was almost completely re-specced, was stolen from me 1998. This year I found a nice similar frame as for a starting point, and wish to build a homage for that bike, that was my first real quality mountain bike. For some practical reasons, of course it will not be 100% the same, but hopefully near 90%. I have found most of the main visual components, but one important thing is still missing, that is Club Roost I-Beam stem for 1 1/4 threadless steerer tube, so if anyone knows where to get one, that would make me very happy man.

I know it’s ahead but you could fit an adapter until you find the one you’re really looking for!

Sorry, I do not understand, what kind of an adapter do you mean:
- headset adapter would not work with my forks (as they are with 1 1/4 steerer tube)
- Internal steerer tube reducer adapter will not do the work for threadless (ahead), it would work from 1/8 to 1/4, but not vice versa
- External reducer adapter would rise the riser height, and do these even exist?
Please explain further,
