Please tell,

When did the Shimano LX Groupset get V-brakes ?

A bike of interest to me on ebay has full LX with canti brakes (original spec on the bike), owner thinks bike is 10 years old, is this an acurate age or is the bike likely to be older.

Further the bike is a Carrera Symetry, can anyone tell me what the frame would be made of as a friend said he new someone in the mid 90's with a full XT equipped Carrera with Reynolds 531 frame.

Cheers

XT v-brakes came out in '97 iirc (still got some originals somewhere), can't remember if LX were the same year or a year later though.

edit - just read previous post, i stand corrected :D

(i meant '97 product year, honest...

i'll get my coat)

The first V-brakes in the LX group were not actual v-brakes, but separate v-brakes for LX: BR-M600 (1997)

The official v-brakes came in the M570 group (1999):

I bought 2 pairs of those LX:BR-M600 V-brakes at the time, rats I new my memory was bad, I could have answered my own question !

So the Carrera's age is probably accurate, not retro enough for me and so I'll pass on it.

Thanks every body, your knowledge is almost infinite !
