Dura ace cranks on a mb

I was just wondering if any1 has ever put Dura ace (latest style) cranks on a mountain bike. because they look really nice on a road bike and it made me think what it would look like on a mountain bike

Possible. Up until last weekend I ran DA 9-speed cranks with a step-down 42t chainring to 30t, making it a 2X9...

I had to shim the BB out a bit, but it worked.

You can't shim out the BB on Octalink 2. There aren't enough threads on road BBs.

BUT

You can bodge it. MTB cups are narrower and come with shims. On some frames you could get away with it, if you use an MTB bearing set.

Use the XTR BB... same theory, just longer splines. The cranks fit fine.

helpfull info i think i might give it a try

Remember DA (and most road cranks) are 130 BCD. Tough to find a set of MTB-size chainrings, but running just two would work.

Remember that DA cranks are expensive and they won't take much abuse. Ground them a few times and they'll be finished.
