Oh God I think it's started is there any cure for my illness

First post and all that and I'm looking for help and maybe a cure to the illness I've just contracted. I've just bought myself an old skool GT Outpost Trail to build up, the frame was only £8, it's not too far from me and I fancied an old skool cromo ride to compliment my new Cromo Kinesis Decade. I've already built up a Specialised Hardock Sport Ali (God knows why), and I'm sure the veterans will all agree nothing quite matches the quality of a good steel framed bike. So I'm doing it again, spending money I don't have on a bike I don't need and I can't seem to or don't want to stop myself. I thought I was over the buy a frame build it up and see how it rides thing once I'd finished the Hardrock, but no the Ali frame left me disappointed and unfulfilled, so there I was again looking through the Bay and spotted a sorry looking frame that shouted out to me, so I stuck a bid on expecting not to win and low and behold I am the new owner of a GT Outpost Trail (once I collect and pay for it). So here I am after spending months/years browsing this superb forum looking for help and advice on what goes where and what's needed to get this thing up to the spec it deserves, and many questions will follow. I guess it really is true that the number of bikes you must have is n+1, regardless of how many you have already or how much room you have to store them. Maybe its just the accomplishment you get after that box load of bits you have ends up on a bike and everything is new and shiny, re-building old hubs and breathing new life into what was once a long forgotten ride. Looks like there a few weeks of scouring the net looking for "bargains" ahead and more looks from the missus when another bit for a bike drops through the letter box. Her hobby is buying shoes and I guess my new hobby is buying bike bits (again). Anyway any help and advice is much appreciated and thanks in advance. Pictures to follow once I get the frame.

You can now say 'Goodbye' to your bank balance, any previous friends you had, and ultimately your Missus!

That's not a problem, as I don't have a bank balance to start with, all my friends are riders and we all meet up for a Sunday morning ride usually every weekend and the missus loves me (well she says that every time she uses my money to pay for her shoes).

In these troubled times, with the constant threat of sovereign debt default and banks with inadequate liquidity ratios, it is a wise move to withdraw all of your reserves from the bank and to conserve them instead in a non-monetary form. There are various ways of doing this, gold bullion etc, but wisely purchased second-hand bicycle parts have a very stable resale value and unlike gold bullion, you can use them in the meantime.

In contrast, the wife's shoes are worth c20% of face value the moment she exits the shop.

My wifes favorite saying is, "not more bloody bike stuff, don't you stop and haven't you got enough" and my reply is, "yes indeed my darling, more bloody bike stuff and I'll stop when you stop buying bloody shoes and handbags".

That is the most sensible comment anyone has made on fiscal responsibility and forward planning in the last three years. Best you get in touch with Number 10 mate. And preferably the Greek government while you're at it. I can't wait to see the London Stock Exchange trading in 1989 Deore XT cantilevers instead of Sterling. Mainly because I have more 1989 Deore XT cantilevers than I have pounds Sterling at the moment... :roll:

If you wish for the happy shoes/bike bits balance to continue, just be sure to compliment her on her appearance whenever she is wearing her newest/most expensive shoes - without actually mentioning the SHOES (or she'll very soon sus you!).

I should really charge for this advice - the experience behind it has been acquired at cinsiderable expense over 40 years!
