Me thinks it would be a brown shorts moment if you're tanking it and come face to face with the back end of a tractor, with Farmer Giles at the wheel doing 5 mph!

I'd probably bail out and be found a week later upside down with my head in ditch water!

Having been a farmer Giles, if I looked back and saw a cyclist coming in like that, I'd sh*t myself too!

Edit: Bit more traction for braking in the middle, by any chance?

none of it is grippy so I locked up the wheels and drifted it sideways - stopped in plenty of time.

The grass wouldhave been an option but there'snot much soil under it - it tendsto just tear off and dump you on your bum.

Definitelya brown trousers moment though!

I had a similar situation on my road bike on a lane, bombing down hill.

Sacary ass sh*t to be honest, had visions of all those tour crashes where the hard braking is then followed by some wobbling and then a perfect somersault over the edge!

Brake. Pray. Find somewhere safe to land if needs be. Collect it and stop in time. Laugh like an idiot for 15 seconds while the adrenaline pumps. Get yourself together and realise how luck you are. Ride home more carefully.
