they're the same thing. only 9sp/10sp chains are narrower

I've just upgraded to 7 from 6 :) bought some XT rapidfire triggers off ebay and can still only get 6 gears to work - I think the bike is telling me to stay retro.

I remember going from 6 to 7 when i got some DX thumbies and STX SE hubs on M321 rims in about '94. I think those wheels dropped about 2lbs off that bike too :D

did you put on a 7 speed cassette too? just asking ;)
