I was reading the thread on parts you were most proud of BITD, and it interested me to see how often the phrase "and I still have it/them today" cropped up".

Made me think... which parts have you still got that are going strong after years of abuse, just will not give up the ghost no matter what you throw at them.

Might give some of us an idea of things to look out for: as we all know expensive doesn't necessarily mean well-built or durable.

My tupp'orth:

1 - XT rear mech c.1994
2 - SPDs (the LX/DX ones from 1993)
3 - Flite Titanium saddle c.1993
4 - Hope XC hub 1995 (admittedly on 2nd set of bearings)
5 - Orange X1 frame

mavic shifters
syncros seatpost
flite
speedplay pedals
scott matthauser pad shoes
phil woods BB

all now on their umpteenth rebuild of bike, all from the early 90s or before

Syncros stem currently on my 95 Kona Explosif came with my 1992 Rocky Mountain Blizzard.

The Bontrager Carbon seatpost curently in the Lloyd I bought from the fridge in 1993 for one of my Blizzards having bent a ritchey, 2 controltechs and snapped the clamp on a Syncros. The clamp has been araldited back on a couple of times but it keeps on trucking.

1. UN71/72 BB (number one without a doubt)
2. Original XT 737 SPD pedals
3. XTII thumbshifters
4. Thomson stems
5. Errr....

1. dx rm650 mech rear

2. dx rm650 front mech

3. purple flight ti had it years (dads got it now)

4. kore free ride bars only alloy jump bas that havn't snaped ;)

5.spokies had them since my first bike

Although in various stages of disintegration, most of the bits on my first proper MTB are old. The stand out bits are:
1. The rear brake cable on my Saracen (1990).
2. A set of first generation SPD M737 pedals (1992).
3. A Tange Prestige seat post, (rub the rust off, it'll be fine), 1990.
4. The first type of wireless computer that Cateye made.
5. XT 11 chainset. The inner (24) and outer (46) are also original. I am on middle ring (36) number five. Coupled with a 12-28 cassette, in my humble opinion I reckon these were God's own gear ratios!

My humble list:

1. UN72 BB
2. Original Flite seat (not the current abomination)
3. Pace Chainrings
4. Thomson seatposts
5. Anything Campy Euclid
