What was the point/advantage of interchangeable legs? From what to what and for why?

Is the diameter of the legs for a Bontrager crown the same as Tange Switchblades?

I believe it is.... :? , KB licensed the design of the Switchblade to tange, and then tange had Bontrager cycles assemble all the tange forks in california... 8)

I will measure both forks, and confirm.

In 1988 the Kestrel Nitro was shown at the Long Beach bike show which features a Paul Turner/Keith Bontrager suspension fork. The fork used a Bontrager triple-clamp design and is the first showing of the future. (See first pic)

What was to become the Rockshox RS-1.......... 8)

The story as i was told it....

The year was 1988, Kestrel had made a "jaw Dropping" carbon fibre hardtail, and were about to launch "THE NITRO" a Carbon Fibre full suspension bike......

remember this was 1988.......

But they Needed a brake that would solve the problems that naturally occur with rear suspension and cantilever brakes.

Bontrager/Kestrel worked together and the ELS brake was born...!!!
And it Pre dates the Shimano "V" brake by some years... 8)

(see pics below---Sorry for the quailty of the pics, they are the only pics i could find.)
