Maintenance for retro Deore XT shifters?

Retro Newbie
I have Deore XT shifters with two levers one for up, the other for own (rapid fire?) which have worked fine since I got the bike in 1993.

Now using the bike a lot more now and wondering if I should maintain them or is it a case of 'if its working don't touch it'
