What year? - rockhopper comp

Can any of you guys help apprciated in identifing the year of a bike Ive just got my hands on?

Sorry no pics available as 'I am a low tech man in a high tech world' and I dont have a camera.

It has a tange 'direct drive' frame and fork, green front end fading to blue at the back, 7/8 speed thumbies, LX groupset, black bars, stem, seatpost.

hmm, let me think.

93 was green/ green fade (that was actually all one green)
94 was all burgundy

maybe a 92? I seem to remember there being fades in 92.

mind you there were colour options in some countries. A second colour as well as main colour.

have a look through the spesh archive in the archive section.

Sounds like a 1990, mine is an 89 and came with Mountain LX and a similar spec to yours, see below pic.

Does yours have cantis or a U-Brake at the back (the 88 had a UBrake)

Wow, thanks guys.

The respray and upgrade looks incredible. THis reto business is catching.

It has cantis rather than a U brake.

One of the stickers says USA so it maybe a stateside model.

Ive not seen it in the spec catelogues or on the net.

Sounds like '88 or '89. Specialized had these horrid fades those days.

88 was all de-nucci green like the rear half of the 88 stumpy on first flight's site. (god i love that bike).

7 spd thumbies & lx groupset (is it mountian lx??) mean its defo 89'.

pre 89' everything was 6speed. (& no mountain lx)
