Which are the halcyon days of mtb'ing?
pre 1970 - Been riding the hills on whatever since Back In The Day 0%  0%  [ 0 ]
1970 - 1979 - Early Days 0%  0%  [ 0 ]
1980 - 1984 - Mass production begins 0%  0%  [ 0 ]
1985 - 1989 - The sport goes worldwide 14%  14%  [ 5 ]
1990 - 1994 - Boom time ! 75%  75%  [ 27 ]
1995 - 1999 - Diversification 11%  11%  [ 4 ]
2000 - 2007 - The modern era 0%  0%  [ 0 ]

I'll go against the grain... 1995-1999. For me it was all about racing. I dont know how it was in the UK, but in 1996-1997, mountain bike racing in the US was huge. Largely in part because of the downhill infusion, but XCs still drew 50 people in each category.

My Hei Hei still had tons of blue ano on it, but it had brakes that worked, a fork that went up and down, and a drivetrain that lasted. Something that was lacking in, say, 1993-1994. It all added up to a bike that could be raced faster, which is all I cared about.

I just realised that I don't own let alone still ride a bike from my chosen era :oops:
