No train no cry. Snow smiles. MTB chosen. Dead quiet. Atmospheric. A lack of people a pleasant surprise. Six layers good. Undergunned with overtoes. Crisp, crackling ice under tyre. Altitude adds depth. Ride through fresh powder. Cafe. Tea and chips. Chiiiips!. :-) Back through woodland, track, and finally road home. 30miles and 4hrs later tea and cake and tea. Best ride of my life.

(EDIT: that's a reference to the bike in the pics ... it's not an implied judgement of your secret psychological trauma!)

Have you still got snow? These pics were taken on Friday morning (not by me, I wasn't there). 24hrs later it was gone. Temperature rose from -4 to +8 and several hours of rain.

The road across Ditchling Beacon had been closed by the Police, but they were able to get there using the tracks of a 4wd that had done it. They then went down to the Cafe at Stanmer, which was open. They're good riders but they found it almost impossible to control the bikes, even with disc brakes. One of the few times when discs are necessary IMO.
