Orange Gringo query.

Retro Newbie
I have found an Orange Gringo 16" frame and can find no info on this bike.

Apparently it should be an MTB.....but..it has skinny wheels and ridgid front forks, just like on of the "cross trainer(?)" type bike we see today.

Can anyone help.

Cheers.

Hi Stan. The Gringo was Orange's base model MTB from the late 90's to mid 2000's. It was replaced by the G2 and G3 that are still available today. Tidy bikes if nothing too special. ;)

Came in around 1999 if I recall correctly, as a replacement for the Orange 02 of 1998. Relatively low in the range but none the less a good bike.

Are you sure its not just normal 26" wheels running slicks or narrow tyres?

Gringos came with a choice of fork, either rigid or suspension.

Could just be skinny tyres for commuting on road on there making it look odd

I had a '03 Gringo with a few upgrades, great bikes.

Got any pics to share?

Hmmm  That could be it then.

As i have got this bike for free i may as well clean it up and let the missus ride it. :D . Nice little bike in Orange tho.

Thanks for the help. :D

Re:

Cheers guys.

Just bought my first retro as a running project to do up as I go along.

Any hints or tips on what I should look to change first?

I would fit new cables and outers, spray through the shifters with WD40 and then give it a ride. At that stage you will see how worn everything is.
Next stage is to re-pack the headset and hubs with grease.
