just bought a USE post but unsure if its Ti or Aluminium :?: I tried scratching it with some scissors and can't mark it so think it Ti....Its certainly bloody light, got a nice purple clamp and makes a nice 'ting' sound when i flick it!

Yes I would like to know the definitive way to tell if something is titanium...
Without sending it to some sort of lab obviously!

titanium is distinctly greyer than aluminium which tends to look silver. compare it to a simmilarly finished piece of ally.
The wall thickness of the Ti posts is less than that of the ally ones too if I recall correctly.

Finally you can do a hardness test - I'd use soething like a scribe or pen-knife to see if I could mark a bit of the tube inside and at the bottom - somewhere where it isn't structural. if it marks it's ally.

Out of curiosity is it an alien design? - if so has it got a machined top or are there no machining marks?

now pretty sure it's TI as scissors now blunt!

Jo - don't think its an Alien as just plain tube and clamp design

That maybe true but I managed to scratch my titec titanium bars with the end of a cut off spoke so is this the definitive test?

Wall thickness is your friend here.

If it bends in 1 week it is aluminium. 2 weeks it's Ti!
