Cutting a threaded steerer: any advice?

Hi,
What's the best way to cut a threaded steel steerer tube without ruining the thread?
Any advice is greatly appreciated :D
 
File a chamfer on the cut edge then run the lock nut up and down over the freshly chamfered/cut edge a few times.
 
As above, use an old locknut as a guide.
Then you can unscrew the locknut off the steerer, which should clean up the threads.
If the locknut comes off OK, then it'll go back on OK.
