The tool needed is actually a BB tool. There are three different 8 prong tools here that should do the job.

I've taken these off using a simple pin spanner.
That said a vice to hold it in is pretty much needed also. Plenty of lube spray but they're usually easy to undo. Just remember theres a thick wire clip needs come off first.
I think I might have a new one of those outers somewhere :? The black one.
