I have Shimano DX thumbies on my son's bike and getting more, the bolt shows a + shaped grove not like a Phillips, I used a Phillips and a flat head before but have always struggled to get them tightened up properly. Do I need a JIS screwdriver? or is there some other screwdriver that fits in these type of heads?

Thank you

Alison

LGF's suggestion is a good one.

Re:

That's standard Phillips, I find it's important to get the right size driver. It always surprises me just how big a driver you need sometimes. Failing that if it's exactly the same as the photo use a hex socket to tighten it.

Yes it's exactly the same. I didn't notice the hex bit

i always use a 1/4" socket on those, if you use a screwdriver it quickly chews hem up, then goes rusty.
