What to build.

Been a long time since I did a bike build.
Fettled parts here and there, then a house move and this shite weather just make it unpleasant.
..aka house move has taken the time actually doing the house and the garage is a dumping ground and cold and the kids are getting older always wanting to do stuff.
But I see some sun out there and it is almost Tropical at 9C.

So I seem to have a
1991 Rocky Mountain EDIT' Hammer' /EDIT bike I bought and left aside a few years ago, but needs a full do up,
a 91ish British Eagle Boss e-stay frame,
a 98 Marin Mt Vision frame,
a '92 Orange Alu Elite frame
and I think I still have a 93 Rocky Mountain Altitude project frame sprayed black from many years back, oh and the part refurbed 94 Pace but that's ridable. Just need a pain strip and spray.

They just seem to turn up in the post.
I was also going to do a tiny early 90s Kona for the eldest child (yes I have that frame too) but over winter he seems to have grown out of his IslaBike Beiin 24L and probably past the 14" Kona size and may be able to ride the smaller 16/17" frames.

To much choice and everything will need time (I think all the forks will need full rebuild if I use them).

Anyone else have a hard time deciding which to do.

Is it at this point you go,bugger it, extend the mortgage and buy a premade modern lump of bike bike with a little motor in it?

No, I know exactly what I need to do and to what bike, it's more a case of having so many projects it's hard to concentrate, and it being a lot of money!

I have an Excel spreadsheet with them all in, I do have to look at it every now and again to remind myself that I have enough already and that only a 1/3 of them are 'done'.

I tend to decide on which bike i have the most parts for, then again recently i started threads for a few of them at once :)

Build the Kona for your Son. They make great bikes for kids, so much better than walking into a bike shop and buying a new bike. I've built two for my kids, first was a 14" cindercone, then as youngest grew out of her 24" dawes I built up a 16" explosif. Both came in really light and the girls loved riding them. As for growing out of them, the youngest (soon to be 13 and tall with it) still rides the 14" Cindercone, though she also fits the 16". If she ever out grows the 16" explosif, I have an 18" Lavadome frame ready and waiting. I built both as a 1 x 8 to keep it simple. I also had the frames powdercoated by Armourtex which proved a good decision, kids tend to drop bikes (rear mech side down :-( ) and walk away... The powder coating is almost unmarked.

Re:

I share your pain. I have recently started shuffling bits around to create better versions of finished builds which has simply left me with less bikes done, and more to do.

It does drive me mad, and with an impending loss of garage, I will have to sell a few rather than see them built, as the shed will be nowhere near garage size.

If it were me, I'd either build something different to the norm, or the one you know will be the best for you/your kids.

I'm keeping back a small dbr axis TT and parts to build for my eldest when he moves up to 26 inch wheels. I know I'll not find another easily.

The other builds I want to complete are:

Nuke Proof Reactor
Unknown titanium 650b
Kona Kula Scandium (my first Kona ever)
Litesoeed Oved FS (though I've had this at least 8 years and it's still boxed.

A few unlikely to make the grade:

Specialised Rockhopper (I think, could be a stumpjumper), coyote ultralight, specialised s-works enduro.

A few builds that will likely leave the stable:

GT STS x2, pipedream Scion 853, Dynatech tourus.

I'm sure I'm missing some....

Good luck with your decisions.
