Valuing bikes 20 years ago (Kona content)

Re:

It's like classic cars, though - something had to be desirable when it was new (exclusivity or beauty), or it will never be a future classic. That's why people pay £20k for a restored Escort Mk1 but not for a Vauxhall Chevette.

These new bikes are ugly and built very firmly to a price; they compete with Carrera and Voodoo brands. An early 90s Kona was cool at the time.

Re: Konas worth collecting

most of the locals here in Vancouver will tell you its hard to sell a decent kona for anything except chump change. I have a Hei Hei and 2 explosifs (92/94). I would be hard-pressed to get $200 for the 94 and lucky to get $350 for the 92 despite the fact that it's in excellent condition and even has the Joe Murray matching front rear tires, plus all the original velocity bits. A Hot will fetch an ok price, anything else unless its a super mint older cinder cone will languish on Cl for weeks. I have seen vintage Kona's go for under $100 (P2 fork included). I guess its just location and the fact that we have all the nice vintage Brodies, Rocky's and Dekerfs

Re:

That must be a location thing - you would struggle to shift an Explosif, but people can't get enough of the Cinder Cone? What?!

You must be the man to source me an original colour 390 A/C P2 TB fork and Velocity stem for a '93 Kilauea then...?

You can keep your Brodies / Rockies and Dekerfs - I'll send you a Raleigh Mustang in return if you like - bet you ain't got proper steel like that in Canada!

:xmas-wink:
