Dating a Kona HEI HEI using frame number?

Re:

Frames manufactured up until and including 1997 will have a “B” prefix. 1998 and 1999 frames will have a “KH” prefix. The next two digits will be the frame size, then a three digit sequential serial number.

I believe that we are yet to establish if the sequential numbers continued regardless of the year. The highest sequential serial number that I can recall with a “B” prefix is in the 900’s, which would suggest that they did continue sequentially through the years of production – rather than starting over each year, as this would presumably repeat a serial number.

Are you able to tell us the serial number of the frame in question?

Re:

Yes, the steel and aluminium frames built in Taiwan have a two digit year number after the first letter that signifies the factory (H = Hodaka, F = Farley).

The other Hand Made In U.S.A. steel and aluminium frames have various prefix letters depending who manufactured them (Altitude, Enigma etc.)

The year of this Hei Hei may be determined by the decals (if original), the cable routing and the slope (or not) of the Top Tube.
