Were original '92-era Shimano axles supposed to be 9 or 10mm diam?
The reason I ask is that my current wheels and hubs now are non-standard, not even Shimano- Weinman 519. They are 9mm diam axles. I don't have access to the Shimano hubs I plan to use so I can measure them.......
I'm going to have the local Bike Man build two entirely new wheels:
<>New Old Stock Shimano hubs ('92): HB-RM50 front, FH-HG-50 rear
<>NOS Shimano Hyperglide 13t to 28t cassette
<>Velocity Aeroheat 26" 36-h front and rear rims
<>WheelMaster black stainless spoke sets both 36-h
<>WheelMaster 4130 front and rear axle assemblies, hollow for QD system
Speaking of which, what size WheelMaster axles should I use?? That's really the bottom line, since the Shimano axles that come with the NOS hubs will be replaced with the new WheelMaster axles........
And any recommendations for super-high quality aftermarket skewers for said WheelMaster axles? I don't even know what the diameter of the skewer rod is supposed to be!
After the wheel-building is complete, the bike gets paired with a new BOB Yak trailer to carry my backpack.
Thanks!!
