So there is Godwin's Law: the longer an online discussion grows, the higher the probability of mentioning Hitler.

When discussing bicycle maintenance, it becomes apparent that you could substitute the term "Hitler" and replace with "Sheldon Brown".

Not that I am equating Sheldon with the the atrocities of the Nazis, just that the longer a discussion about maintenance goes on the greater the probability that someone will post a link to Sheldon Brown or ask what his site decrees.

that's old hat now
For an individual politician it seems to be Maggie thatcher, for everything else it's Brexit. And the latter usually appears after about 4 posts ..... it does on the non-cycling forums I visit
