Cutting a slot in an 80s cable guide?

Has anyone done this? To make it easier to service. I'd generally be loathe to do anything to a frame but I reckon a hacksaw , a file and some touch up paint would do a perfectly good job and I can't really see any downside. I don't think it would really even affect originality as its so minor.

Any thoughts?

Reasonable, but it'd be marked down in a concours ring.

If you do swing the blade, I'd wrap the top and base of the hacksaw in cloth or tape just in case you hit the tube with it.

Second vote for a Dremel with a tiny cutting disc, a few quid well invested.
All too easy to snag a tube with a hacksaw blade, since access along a tube is always difficult.

All the best,

Thanks guys, didn't get notice of these posts for some reason. Yes good points, thanks. I'm undecided whether to do it but if I do I'll post an update. Probably wouldn't be for a while anyway...

If you're going to do it, use a dremel.

Ive done this a few times and use a dremel as its best for tight spots. As above, tape off surrounding area incase of slippage.
