My 2007 Giant XTC came with a standard, clamp on front mech.

There are a lot of similarities between the frames:

It looks like the main differences are just additions of bosses for disk brakes etc. I wonder if the geometry is very different?

Re:

Generally cabon tubes dont use clamp on mech due to risk of crushing the tube.

Sorry but i sont understand the probkem.

Is there not unough side ro side travel , then are adjuatment screwz dullt wound out, uf so can you file down the mech end stop or fit longer/shorter bb to move xhainrings out.

If vertical movemng, then adjust position, elongate it or fit larger/smaller rings.

The front mech is designed for a max 44t chain ring. Xtr has 46 or 48.
The frame is also likely (but not guaranteed) to be designed for a 44 big ring as well. The "braze" on will be positioned for a 44 (probably). There may be another "braze" on for the XTR version of the bike (if there is one)

I have a similar issue with my road bike, compacts didn't exist when it was made, so with a 50t big ring the mech is about 3 or 4mm too high to work perfectly.

Re:

I agree the existing brace on solution doesn't work so I'm changing it out. The frame is a 95 so I can only assume it wasn't designed that way.
