Is this an old Trek ?

Dirt Disciple
Bought this as a possible project about 15 years back, dug out the garage this week to decide what to do with it.

It came as it looks now, think it once had paint ?

the bike shop I bought it from (they took it in part ex) said it was a Trek...but not 100%

Its light weight and as you can see has disk capabilities - not sure if the welding gives much away ??

Horizontal top tube ?

The seat stays are set lower than the top tube....not seen many other mtb frame set this way

The hangers appear to have a P shape inside?? can't find this design googling etc

The two main tubes are aero ...

no numbers anywhere either

if it's worth saving from land fill etc I've got plenty of bits to throw on it.

any ideas as to possible make or model would be greatly appreciated it's at least 17 +yrs old now

The drop outs don't look like a Trek to me. I'm sure early disc ready Trek frames used a Hayes type disc mount on the chainstay rather than an IS mount in the normal place.

Thanks, should have included this pic - it has v brake posts...

wish i could identify the drop outs, probably find the make then at least

cheers

Oops, sorry, I was thinking canti brake cable mount. In other words: the frame was meant for V-Brakes or Disk. But not cantis. That rules out the early years...

I have been googling like crazy the last couple of nights, but can't find anything like this other than carbon road bikes...?

An old boy who lives next door is a retired welder and reckons it's very decent welding for the era, says possibly Japanese ??

wot bikes are Japanese made ??

thanks
